Vedic Astrology (Indians)

In Vedic astrology (Jyotish), the 12 houses are called Bhavas (भाव), each representing a specific area of life. Unlike Western astrology, Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac (based on fixed stars) and typically employs the whole-sign house system, where each sign corresponds to one house, starting from the Ascendant (Lagna).

Here are the 12 Bhavas (houses) with their Sanskrit names and core significations:

    • Self, body, appearance, personality, vitality, beginnings.

  7. Kalatra Bhava (7th House)

    • Marriage, partnerships, spouse, business relationships, public image.

They are grouped into:

  • Special Houses:

    • Kendras (Angular houses: 1, 4, 7, 10): Power, action, stability.

    • Trikonas (Trine houses: 1, 5, 9): Luck, spirituality, wisdom.

    • Dusthanas (Malefic houses: 6, 8, 12): Challenges, obstacles, endings.
